Exchanged for just fifteen pounds
And two beaver hats
I wrote this haiku a couple of years ago for Paragon IV after reading that the famous whaling island was sold by Thomas Mayhew, founder of Martha's Vineyard, to a group of investors for that trifling sum. Looking into it now, it seems the sum was actually thirty pounds. Oh well.
