The volunteering programme for the London 2012 Olympics is being overseen by McDonald's.
It was amusing, therefore, to be at a recent training session and have one of the audience members ask a pressing question.
"Will our meal vouchers be valid only at McDonald's outlets?" they asked. The company will apparently build its largest-ever diner inside the Olympic Park, and 1 in 5 meals consumed at the Games will be provided by them.
One of the organizers turned to a McDonald's representative for clarity.
"No," came the response. "I'm afraid they won't be valid there at all."
At which point half the room sighed with relief and the other half erupted into a cheer. The poor lady looked crestfallen.
