Some thoughts on student protests

I am out of the UK, so I don't have any first-hand experience of what's going on as a response to the ConDem proposition of increased tuition fees.  A senior lecturer I know at one of Britain's leading universities, however, had this to say to me when I asked him what was happening:

"The ‘rioting’ students are depressingly few in number, and scarily well-behaved. What’s wrong with students these days..."

It's all a far cry from the days when future Channel 4 newsreaders took over university buildings for purely moral causes (as opposed to purely financial ones) and got rusticated.
