Bearly believable

"Polar bear attacks woman at Berlin Zoo" ran the headline on the Grauniad website, implying that a crazed animal had picked on a poor innocent human being. Then I read the story, featuring the photo below, and got rather annoyed.

The woman inexplicably jumped over the fence of the enclosure during feeding time and swam towards the bear. She was then mauled. Had the bear escaped from its compound and gone on the rampage, a sensationalist headline might have been justified. However, when a person climbs into a captive carnivore's domain, they have to deal with the consequences. I haven't a clue why she chose to act the way she did, but the lady should consider herself lucky she wasn't killed.
