A quick sporting question

Please can someone tell me what purpose Owen Hargreaves serves in the England football team? He doesn't seem to be able to pass, tackle, run with the ball, head, shoot or score, so I was just wondering why he'd been selected by Sven-Goran Eriksson. My brother, also an Owen H, would be a far more useful member of the team
